I live in the Apple Valley-Rosemount area. I have a 16-year-old son, Charlie, who plays hockey for the NTDP in Plymouth, MI, a 14-year-old daughter, Sophie, who plays for Rosemount High School, Machine Orange ’07, and plays soccer for Salvo, and an 11-year-old, Cooper, who plays football, baseball, and hockey for Rosemount as well as Tommy Chicago ’10 AAA. I enjoy CrossFit, dog walking, reading, and most of all, watching my kids do what they love… Play sports!
What do you like most about BA?
Breakaway creates an environment that fosters learning and allows students to pursue their passion. Through small class sizes and invested staff, the students flourish. The consistent education and expectations of character development provide endless opportunities for life lessons, growth, and experiences. Breakaway challenges the student-athlete to excel in the classroom and on the ice, both physically and mentally.
Why did you get into education?
Ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to teach and coach. Meeting new people, learning new things, and the excitement of competition were some of what drew me to the profession as I got older.
Which coach or teacher had the biggest impact on your life and why?
One of my high school English teachers, Mr. Gillund, was the most impactful in my education. His dedication to teaching his subject and getting to know his students and what sparked their interests created excitement in the classroom and extracurricular activities. Mr. Gillund made working hard fun, and his students saw the success that stemmed from that work.
What is your best advice for students at BA?
You don’t have to be the best, but you should be the hardest working!
