On-Ice Lead Coach

Bio

I live in the wonderful city of Mahtomedi, MN, with my brilliant wife Jill and our 3 sons. My son Jake is a sophomore at Colorado College, where he is a goalie on the hockey team. My son Wyatt is a Junior at the University of Wisconsin and is double majoring in Finance & Information Systems. My youngest son, Axel, is a Senior at Hill Murray and is Captain of the hockey team. I enjoy fishing, reading, all kinds of music, and hanging out with friends.

What do you like most about BA?
While the on-ice hockey training is off the charts, I have been super impressed with the academic side of Breakaway Academy. The small class sizes lead to success in the classroom. The character lessons are invaluable.

Why is it important to have solid academics in addition to good hockey training?
Solid academics are without question the most important asset a student-athlete can have! Student-athletes are one injury away from being just a student.

Which coach or teacher had the biggest impact on your life and why?
Mr. Mortenson ~ Naperville Central High School
He was a teacher who made me want to come to class. Mr. Mortenson was not only a great educator, but he recognized non-academics strengths in students. He recognized kindness, humor and was empathetic to the daily struggles of a high school student.

What is your favorite hockey memory?
I have a lot of great hockey memories! The times I remember most are coming together as a team and making a run. I loved hanging with the fellas, and I cherish the life-long friendships I have made.

What are your credentials and hockey experience?
I have been coaching both Boys and Girls hockey for close to 25 years. I have coaching experience at all levels of hockey from Mites to HS Varsity as well as the MN Blades and Tier 1 teams.

4 Years HS Varsity Naperville Central ~ Captain
