Bio

What do you like most about BA?
The first time I visited Breakaway Academy, I was delighted to feel the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Each staff member has a friendly, positive demeanor with a genuine interest in the well-being of others. The small class sizes will foster strong relationships among students and teachers. I am proud to be a member of such a wonderful organization.

Why did you get into education?
I adore kids. It’s that simple! I enjoy every student I work with. Their unmasked personalities inspire me, and I love to hear their unique perspectives. I learn just as much from the students as they hopefully learn from me. As a teacher, I have the opportunity to reach students at a critical time in their development, and I hope to create an environment that allows them to be the best version of themselves they can be. I hope to encourage students to expand their thoughts and feel confident in their abilities.

Which coach or teacher had the biggest impact on your life and why?
My third-grade teacher was so kind. She smiled a bright smile every single day as she welcomed us into the classroom. Every student in her classroom felt important and happy to be there because she showed us she cared about us. That kindness allowed us to feel safe in the classroom. Safe to make mistakes. Safe to learn things that don’t come easily. Safe to be ourselves no matter what. That kindness became contagious, and the rest of our classmates shared that kindness in the classroom and developed a strong sense of community among the students. The memory of her smile still gives me warmth to this day and reminds me of the positive impact we all can have on each other.

What is the best advice you can give students at BA?
Be yourself. My role as a teacher is to be the picture frame, and each student is the artwork inside. I will offer support, opportunities, and a foundation for learning. I invite each student to create themselves and their experience in a way they feel proud of. It is my pleasure to observe the talents of each student and watch as they grow and evolve.

What are your credentials and teaching experience?
Bachelor of Science Degree, Therapeutic Recreation, University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse
Elementary Education Licensure Program, Concordia University, St. Paul
Masters of Education in Teaching and Learning, St. Mary’s University of MN

I taught 3rd and 4th grade in Eastern Carver County Schools for many years. After taking time to stay home with my children, I returned to the classroom. For the last few years, I have worked with students of all ages and backgrounds in all schools in Eastern Carver County. I had long-term substitute teaching experiences with 2nd-grade students and English Language Learners teaching students learning English as a second language. I also held a unique position as a Building Substitute filling in for teachers and teaching small groups of students to reach the additional educational needs that arose during Covid. I am honored to bring my experiences with education to Breakaway Academy.
