Coach Nels is a highly experienced soccer coach and director with over 30 years of experience in coaching youth soccer in Minnesota. He has coached boys’ and girls’ teams of all ages and play levels during his 20 years as a coach at REV SC, formerly Dakota REV. Over the last 13 years, Nels has primarily coached and trained players ages 9-14, focusing on their technical abilities and confidence on the ball. Nels has also served as director of player development and girls’ director at REV SC for over 10 years. During his tenure, he helped the club grow from under 300 players to over 1,100 players.
In addition to his work at REV SC, Nels has coached boys and girls at the high school level at Eastview High School, Bloomington Kennedy High School, and Rosemount High School as an assistant coach. He also has college coaching experience, having worked with NCAA National Coach of the Year, Larry Zelenz, during the pre-season and camps at Gustavus Adolphus College.
Nels’ teams have achieved remarkable success, winning the Minnesota State Cup, multiple Minnesota State championships, and multiple USA CUP championships. He has coached U.S. Club Super League champions, U.S. Club Regional champions, and ECNL National Quarterfinalists.
Nels’ playing experience includes club soccer for Kelix under Dave Lawson before playing four years for Gustavus Adolphus College where he helped the Gusties win a MIAC title and a NCAA birth his senior year.
With a USSF National D License, a NSCAA National Diploma, and a Master’s Degree in Education, Nels is a highly qualified coach and director who has made a significant impact on youth soccer in Minnesota.
