I live in Chaska, where I am originally from. I have 3 younger siblings and a black lab named Marco. I enjoy kayaking, reading, working on my small business, spending time with friends and family, and shopping at small businesses.
What do you like most about BA?
I love that the students are getting more than just an education. They are getting instruction in hockey, which is a passion for the students and character class to help shape them as young adults. I think this whole student approach is important.
Why did you get into education?
I got into education because I got to experience what teaching was like at a young age with a mom who is also a teacher. I fell in love with it, though, in high school while working with elementary kids. I love the moment when students make connections and things start to click. I also love seeing students find and enjoy books that they love.
Which coach or teacher had the biggest impact on your life and why?
My mom was my fourth-grade math teacher, and she really shaped the way I wanted to teach. She broke everything down and gave students easy ways to remember things. Students adored her, and she did more than teach; she always put in the extra work to make sure her students were cared for on all levels. That is the type of teacher that I strive to be.
What is the best advice you can give students at BA?
My best advice for Breakaway Academy students is not to stop working until you are proud. The more that you put into your studies and training, the more progress and success you will see down the road. Your best effort is always the best option.
What are your credentials and teaching experience?
I have had teaching experience in four different school districts and six different grade levels. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with two teaching licenses from Minnesota State University, Mankato. This will be my third year at Breakaway Academy.
